The ANC leadership in the Free State reconfirmed their support for Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane who was in Bloemfontein to attend the party’s three day leadership summit.
Zwane, provincial treasury of the ANC in the province and former Agriculture MEC made media headlines when he issued a false statement saying cabinet had resolved to set up a judicial inquiry into banks that had closed the Gupta family’s accounts. The party afterwards described his actions as “appalling” and “outrageous”. He was also lambasted for prematurely calling off a rescue operation for zama-zamas at the Langlaagte mine shaft.
All this sparked speculation that President Jacob Zuma might be planning a cabinet reshuffling soon as replacing Zwane would be seen as a good enough reason for this step.
ANC Provincial Secretary William Bulwane said the party’s provincial leadership is fully behind Zwane and supports him as minister.
