A 14-year-old boy has died after he was repeatedly assaulted with a sjambok by his uncle and neighbour in Thaba Nchu on Tuesday, police said.
He had allegedly stolen R500 from his grandmother, said police spokesperson Sergeant Martin Xuma.
“It is alleged that the grandmother noticed that her money was missing and suspected that his grandson Amogelang Mokgothu stole the money. The boy’s uncle and the neighbour found him and brought him home where they allegedly beat him with a sjambok,” Xuma said.
He mentioned that the two allegedly assaulted the boy while he was tied to a laundry line. The 14-year-old was left outside over night and was found dead on Wednesday morning.
His 30-year-old uncle and 22-year-old neighbour were arrested for the murder and are expected to appear in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
