Dam levels in Free State have decreased by 0,3 %, from 85,0 % last week to 84.7% this week. Water levels in the province have recorded an improvement compared to 54.0% during the same period last year.
This is according the dam level report that was issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) on Tuesday, 16 May 2017. Many dams have shown significant improvement with some dams in the province reaching their capacity for the first time in a long time.
Dams such as Tierpoort currently at 6.6% while last week it was at 6.7%, Kalkfontein currently at 13.4% while last week at 13.5% and Groothoek currently at 18.2% while last week at 18.3% which still remain below 20%.
Our big dams such as Strekfontein Dam currently at 90.4% last week was 90.0%, Gariep currently at 88.6% last week was 90.0% and Vanderkloof currently at 67.0% last week at 65.9% which shows non stability on weekly basis.
Residents should bear in mind that water restrictions in the province will continue being implemented until the dam levels are satisfactory.
DWS would like to urge water users to continue using water sparingly and save every little drop. Not forgetting that we are in winter period with no or minimal rain.
