A 43-old man, who is allegedly a former Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) member, and his girlfriend, were arrested after mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R 450 000 were found in their possession.
Police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, told Courant that the suspects were arrested during a routine stop and search operation on the N8 between Bloemfontein and the Lesotho Border Post at 13:00 today.
He says two plastic bags were found hidden under the passenger seat of the white BMW they were travelling in.
“Upon searching the vehicle the police found two plastic bags containing 4500 mandrax tablets, the driver and his girlfriend were immediately arrested.
“After a preliminary investigation it was discovered that the man is a former Lesotho National Defence Force member. The police investigation is continuing,” says Marope.
He says the suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
