Social grant beneficiaries will be paid early next month to avoid any disruption of the upcoming local government elections.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) announced last week that social grants payments would commence from this coming Wednesday (July 27).
“The payment at various pay points will run from the 27th till the 29th of July this year. There will be no payment at pay points from the 1st till the 3rd of August 2016, due to the local government elections. Payment at pay points will resume on the 4th of August until the last payment date. The money will be available without any interruption as from the 27th of July till the 25th of August for beneficiaries using other payment channels, for example ATMs and retails stores,” Sassa’s Free State spokesperson, Sandy Godlwana, explains.
Sassa enquiries can be made at 0800 60 10 11 or the provincial line on (051) 410 8339.
The elections are on August 3, which has been declared a public holiday.
