The number of illegal miners who died in Welkom over the weekend have increased.
On Monday morning, police were informed by the security guards of the Harmony mine, about three additional bodies that were found at the Eland shaft. The three bodies comprises a Lesotho national, a Zimbabwean and an unknown deceased.
According to Free State police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng, three cases of inquest, have been registered for further investigation.
“Thus the number has increased to five since from last week Friday. The two deceased had name tags for their identification. Their names will be make known after next of kins are been informed,” said Thakeng.
