The African National Congress (ANC) at the Tlokwe Local Municipality in North West has retained all contested seats.
In a council meeting that was held yesterday, Kgotso Khumalo was selected as the Executive Mayor, while Elisa Mogoeemang was selected as the Speaker.
The ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA) were the two major political parties contesting for leadership of the Tlokwe municipality.
According to the Caucus Chairperson of the DA, Hans-Jurie Moolman, no single DA representative was selected for positions which they contested. They will, however, put pressure on the ruling party to deliver basic services to the community.
“We contested for the positions of the Executive Mayor, the Speaker, and the Chief Whip, but we did not get anyone selected. Our representatives were, however, inaugurated as councillors” said Moolman.
He says there are still issues surrounding transparency in municipal expenditure and his party will put pressure on the selected leaders to provide housing and improve infrastructure.
