Contractors downing tools news to me – Mlamleli

Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, olly Mlamleli
Mangaung Metro mayor, Olly Mlamleli, says that reports of contractors downing tools due to not being paid by the municipality, is news to her. She says she recently held a meeting with a service provider responsible for the municipality’s traffic system, and he received his payment on Wednesday, and agreed to return to work.

Mlamleli says as she is currently attending the provincial Salga conference in Welkom, she will only be able to respond once she is back in town and has looked into the issue. “But what is disappointing to me is that I, as the executive mayor, they don’t even come to me because I am the person who called them to come and explain to me. I even called the CFO and infrastructure manager, we agreed on the date. Now that the R500 million is on the table for specific purposes, they decide to put their tools down,” she added.

The municipality has recently acquired a R500 million loan, which is meant to pay contractors owed by the municipality, as well as for infrastructure.
