Buffalo sold for R168 million

A buffalo was auctioned for R168 million at the Thaba Tholo Game Farm in Limpopo earlier today.

Thaba Tholo is a 36,000 hectare farm, breeding rare species. The eighth Thaba Tholo auction commenced yesterday and is currently underway.

CEO Rubin Els, has undertaken to speak to Courant later this afternoon about this highly priced animal.

In February this year, Bloomberg reported that a buffalo named Horizon, for his wide horn span, sold for a record R176m.

South Africa-based businessman Peter Bellingham bought a 25% share of this animal for R44 million.
