Kabelo Motsamai, better known as Prince Kaybee, has once again made it on the list of nominees for this year’s Metro FM Awards. The award-winning musician has been nominated for the Best Remixed Song. Not only is he looking forward to the 16th Metro FM Awards, but to his music tour to the UK later in April. Prince Kaybee will be spending the whole month of April in the UK, performing at various places.
The Free State star musician says he takes pride in his musical career and what he has achieved despite the challenges he has faced coming from the rural areas of the province. “Being born in rural Botshabelo and receiving some form of recognition in the music industry means a lot. This is an indication of how far determination can take you. The song that I am nominated for, titled ‘Don’t give up’, resembles this. It was not easy entering the industry and creating a name for myself but I didn’t give up. So, through this song I want to encourage other people to not give up on their dreams, regardless of the challenges they might encounter in their lives.”
He says the main thing to remember is to pursue one’s dreams by all means. “There were times when I would be pressurised by my family to rather opt for a career that would enable me to get money instantly, but I was not prepared to give up on my dream of becoming a musician and that’s how the song came up.”
Prince adds that the song titled “Better Days” (on his previous album), which won him the 2015 Record of the Year Award in the category of Best Dance Album, was also motivated by the hardships he has endured.
The Free State golden boy advises other young people to think through their long-term goals and to pursue their dreams. He says they should not be discouraged by their present circumstances. – Katleho Morapela
