Bloemfontein woke up to the shocking news that local jazz singer, Peter Nthwane, was allegedly shot and killed last night.
According to Thandi Mbambo, police spokesperson, Nthwane was at his home in Phase 6 location when this incident happened.
The killing happened around 20h30 last night. Apparantly his wife was present.
Mambo says Nthwane’s wife was taken in for questioning and the police are investigating more leads. No suspects or the motive for the killing are yet known.
His funeral is expected to spark widespread outcries against gun violence as he is the third person shot and killed in recent weeks.
He was best known for his jazzy satirical Sesotho songs, which had a large footprint in Free State.
He released four albums, his first being in 2004 and his last one being in 2014. Nthwane will be remembered for his bubbly personality and youthful demeanor.
