Reinhardt Verster(34), a suspect in the theft of 20 cattle worth about R140 000, is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court next Thursday, 17 August 2017.
This comes after the local farmer’s first court appearance was postponed for seven days in his absence on Thurday, 10 August 2017. Police spokesperson, Lorraine Earle said the suspect allegedly offered to sell the cattle at an auction but failed to pay the owner.
“It is alleged that he went to an upcoming farmer in Bloemspruit outside of Bloemfontein to get cattle to sell in an auction. When the farmer cornered him about the money for the cattle he failed to adhere to his side of the deal. Warrant Officer Skroef Schroeder from the Bloemfontein Stock Theft Unit traced Verster and arrested him.”
Earle added that Verster was admitted to hospital where he is currently in Police Custody. He will stay in custody until his formal bail application. The case was postponed for 7 days for the formal bail application.
