Thought for the Week

A clean slate

Brenda Myburgh

One thing I have noticed when speaking to people, is how we struggle to let go of the mistakes made in our past. I get the feeling that we ask God to forgive us, but we continue to return to that incident every time we do something wrong. Even in times when things in our lives are actually going smoothly, we will be reminded of our past mistakes. Where does this come from? God says in Ps 32 v 1 “Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be — you get a fresh start, your slate’s wiped clean.”(Msg)

This is surely not from a God who says in verse 2 “Count yourself lucky — GOD holds nothing against you and you’re holding nothing back from Him.” God is our Father and holds nothing against those whose slate is wiped clean. It is so important to learn to distinguish between the different voices we hear. God is a loving Father and is not the one who makes us feel condemned the whole time. That is the enemy. He does not like it if we grasp the true power of being forgiven and of starting a new relationship with God, holding nothing back. Enjoy the freedom that comes with this truth.
