Easy apple pie
Ingredients for the crumble:
| 500ml |
self-raising flour |
| 125ml |
oats |
| 185ml |
sugar |
| |
Salt |
| 250g |
butter |
Method:
- 1. Mix the self-raising flour, oats, sugar and salt.
- 2. Cut the butter into small squares.
- 3. Rub into the flour mixture to form the crumble.

pie apples (big tin or 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled and poached) |
| 15ml |
raisins (soaked in warm water) |

Ginger and cinnamon to flavour |
| 1 |
can condensed milk |
Method:
- 1. Arrange the apples in a prepared oven proof dish.
- 2. Season with ginger and cinnamon and add the raisins.
- 3. Drizzle the condensed milk over the pie apples.
- 4. Top with the crumble mixture.
- 5. Bake at 180°C for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
CHEF’S TIP
How to make your own apple pie filling.
Core and peel six Granny Smith apples. Cut into thick slices. Combine 250ml water, 250ml sugar, 5ml ginger and 5ml cinnamon in a medium sauce pot. When the sugar has melted, bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the apples and 15ml raisins. Cover and poach over low heat until just tender. Remove from the heat and cool before using.
