10 fatalities have been reported by Emergency Medical Services in a head on collision between a taxi and a bakkie on the R726 road between Zastron and Sterkspruit.
According to EMS spokesperson who is on the scene, Tammy Marwick, the accident happened around 07h30 on Friday morning.
The children are estimated to be between the ages of 5 and 7 years old. The taxi caught fire after the accident and many of the people that were in the taxi were burnt to death.
It is believed the children in the taxi were on route to Johannesburg.
Marwick also says the passenger who was in the bakkie, a local farmer, also died.
There is also a woman who was taken with a helicopter and flown to a hospital in Bloemfontein for treatment on her injuries.
Police spokeperson, Yanga Ncukana says in addition to the ten that died, 7 sustained critical injuries.
Police are on the scene to investigate further. The cause of the accident is unclear and the families of those that were involved have not yet been notified.
